What is the Family Support Payment Corporation?
Family Support Payment Corporation is an organization
dedicated to providing child support owed to children. You sign a contract
that pays you all back support as well as the designated monthly payments
required to satisfy your court order in exchange for the right of the
Family Support Payment Corporation to collect the payments from
the obligor parent.
What is the difference between the program offered
by the Family Support Payment Corporation and the ones offered by private
collectors?
The Family Support Payment Corporation is a dependable
source for child support payments. It is not hiring a collection agency
and agreeing to pay a percentage of any child support payments collected.
Is there a cost to be in the program?
No fees are charged to the family owed child support.
How do I receive payments?
You will receive a monthly payment by check or through direct-deposit into your bank account.
What happens if my child support order changes in the amount to be paid?
You are required to immediately notify the Family
Support Payment Corporation of any changes in your order so that a new
agreement could be set up based on the new order.
What happens if the obligor does not make child
support payments specified in the court order?
The Family Support Payment
Corporation can use any legal means necessary to collect child support and
the obligor may be liable for interest and fees associated with the collection
process. This has no impact on payments to you (obligee participant).
What happens if the Family Support Payment Corporation goes out of business?
Your child support payments are kept in an
Escrow Account and should not be affected. If for any reason you do not receive
future support due from the Family Support Payment Corporation, the child
support debt reverts to you. You could collect the support as you always have
from the obligor parent directly or through a government child support
agency.
Where are the sources of funds for the Family Support Payment Corporation?
The Family Support Payment Corporation
makes child support payments from a Trust Account funded by collections from the
obligor parent, U.S. Treasury bonds, interest, and fees generated by ancillary
services.
